Call Your Senators: Fully fund the global HIV/AIDS response!
On July 19th, the House appropriations committee voted to continue funding global AIDS at the same pace as 2017. While a better outcome than most expected from the House, we agree with Representative Barbara Lee that we definitely need an increase if we're going to get to an AIDS-free generation. These programs have been flat funded since 2011, and increased funding is needed now to scale up to a test and start model of HIV treatment for everyone in order to end the epidemic. A slight increase in the U.S. investment for 2018 - from $4.3 billion to $5 billion - is needed next year to end the worst epidemic of modern times, less than one fifth of the total $26 billion needed.
Now it's up to the Senate to allocate the full funding needed, and we need to remind them to do their job. Please call your U.S. Senators today, and tell them to increase funding by $700 million for 2018.
